Canada is recognized worldwide as a leading producer, processor and exporter of high-quality oilseeds, pulses, and cereal grains. Canada’s unique geography, which includes several different climatic zones and millions of hectares of fertile soil, enables producers to grow diverse and numerous crops. Canada’s annual grains and oilseed production has been about 90 million metric tonne in the last five years. Commercial production of grains and oilseeds results in the availability of large quantities of crop residues which can be used as feedstock for bioenergy, biofuels and other bio-based products. Although a portion of these residues are currently used for local animal feed and bedding markets, a majority of these resources are currently underutilized or burnt in the field.

Despite the low uptake of agricultural biomass resources in the evolving Canadian bioeconomy, agricultural biomass has been used in a greater extend for the production of low-carbon heat and power in the European Union (EU). To raise the awareness among the stakeholders in the Canadian Bioeconomy on the existing and potential opportunities for the use of locally produced agricultural biomass in Canada, Biomass Canada Cluster and the AgroBioHeat Project are holding a joint panel discussion on the success stories and lessons learned from the use of agricultural biomass for bioheat and biopower production in the EU. This webinar provides an international perspective on the potential opportunities to advance agricultural biomass use for a sustainable, low-carbon economy in Canada. Manolis Karampinis AgroBioHeat Project Coordinator

Research Associate at CERTH/CPERI

Manolis is a research associate at Centre for Research and Technology Hellas. Currently, he coordinates AgroBioHeat, a project funded by European Union’s Horizon 2020 program with the objective to foster the development of new agrobiomass-to-heat value chains. Manolis is a board member of the Greek Biomass Association and Bioenergy Europe.

 

Pablo Rodero

EU Projects Manager, Spanish Biomass Association (AVEBIOM)

Pablo Rodero is the responsible for EU projects in AVEBIOM since 2011. He is a member of the Bioenergy Europe and European Pellet Council’s boards. He is also a member of the technical committee CTN 164 for the normalization of solid biofuels and manages the agrobiomass certification scheme BIOmasud.

 

 

Claus Mikael Larsen

Head of Project Sales of Linka Energy A/S

Claus is an engineer and educator in Business Administration. He has more than 15-year experience in biomass boiler systems based on straw, woody biomasses etc. The experience Claus has gained within biomass covers project management, negotiation & contract handling, technical support (export partners), cost calculation and market development (mostly, Europe and North America).

 

Jerome Maillet

Export Manager of COMPTE.R Group – Biomass Solutions

Jerome is export manager for COMPTE.R group with expertise in biomass energy for heating applications. He is a cross-disciplinary actor with a strong background in Business Development and Project Management.

 

Detlef Max Hoffmann

CEO of Green Future Consulting

As consultant, advisor and project manager, his principal task is to design circular economy projects and to accompany the projects through the process until their completion. The focus of his company is in heat and biomass fuel production, cogeneration, biogas and projects for soil improvement for better harvests and against desertification.
